Call for Tutorial Videos: Activating Women in Sound
As part of WISWOS’s Research in a Box project A Toolkit for Activating Women in Sound we are looking to commission 2 female sound artists/music technologists/composers/sound engineers/researchers etc., to create video tutorials for girls aged between 14-16. ‘Research in a Box’ is a loanable kit aimed at GCSE or A-Level school students that fits in with the curriculum and at the same time showcase resources used by women:
researchers, sound artists, music technologists, game sound designers, foley artists, historians of women in the sonic arts and music etc.
The aim is to inspire the next generation of researchers and to aid in the transition of pupils from school to University.’
The videos will be placed on the WISWOS website and within a loanable toolkit for secondary schools alongside other tools for teaching girls about sound technology, the sonic arts and the history of women’s contribution to sound and music. The Research in a Box project, funded by the Research Council UK and Lancaster University, aims to make practical interventions into the current pedagogical apparatus for the teaching of sonic technologies in schools, and to interrogate and generate the construction of virtual and physical sites of knowledge exchange on gender, sound and technology.
The video tutorials will be between 20 and 30 minutes in duration and can cover any area of sound and or music as it relates to technology. The tutorial can be in sound design, composition, foley, instrument building, editing, recording, studio engineering/recording, etc., and should be accessible to young teenage learners.
selected artists will receive a fee of £175.
Please submit a 1 minute video presentation of your tutorial idea along with a 200 word bio to email@example.com. The video should be of good quality uncompressed audio and video. Please submit the video as a web link to such sites as Vimeo or Dropbox or from your website, do not send the files directly.
The deadline is the 21st of May. Only selected artists will be notified by the 14th of June.
